Richard began working as a freelance watercolour artist in Plymouth after qualifying with a B.A. in Design and Illustration. Richard exhibited his pen and ink watercolours in a number of galleries in and around Plymouth, culminating in a one man exhibition of his work in the historic Barbican quarter. Richard continued to paint and illustrate during a number of years whilst working as a teacher. Work in West Africa lead to him meeting his wife, Rachel. They later worked as teachers in Cairo and travel has continued to play a large part in their lives. Now living near Bristol, Richard has found a demand for his images of local scenes and Venice, a city of which he never tires of visiting and painting. His loose, informal style has been used to illustrate tourist information boards and magazine articles.
